The race for zero emissions
The world is changing.
We’re adopting a new state of mind –
a new way of thinking.
In order to tackle global climate change ‘head-on’, Jungheinrich have devised a whole new approach and a way of thinking that we call Environmentality.
Environmentality is an awareness of the environmental issues facing mankind and a sense of responsibility to the natural world, and this will be an integral part of the how we do business both now and far into the future.
The UK Government is leading the way on the road to net zero and as hosts of the COP 26 climate change conference, the UK will pledge to slash emissions to net zero by 2050. The phasing out and banning of new internal combustion engine powered road vehicles along with an increase in energy generation from renewable sources will be key to reducing carbon dioxide emissions and limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees. The logistics sector needs to change its thinking and become more efficient and sustainable in every way possible.
It makes you think, doesn’t it.
Stop and think.
Just how green is your fleet?
Have you ever thought about the level of emissions that your current fleet of trucks produces? We’ve developed a simple online tool, our Carbon Calculator, which will estimate the current level of emissions you are experiencing and show you what the alternative would be if converting to Lithium-ion power. Whether your trucks run on diesel, gas or lead-acid batteries, tell us and we’ll work it out – you may be surprised!

Platinum certification for corporate responsibility.
Jungheinrich is among the “Top 1%” of the most sustainable companies worldwide, with above-average performance in environmental protection, human rights and sustainable procurement.
In recognition of this, Jungheinrich has been awarded the highest sustainability certificate in platinum by the EcoVadis rating agency. As one of the world’s leading institutions for assessing corporate responsibility, EcoVadis only awards platinum status to the top one per cent of certified companies. In total, EcoVadis has analysed the sustainability of more than 85,000 companies.
“Jungheinrich creates sustainable value. For us as a family-owned company, this means in concrete terms that we combine social and ecological responsibility with profitable growth. This self-image drives us to shape intralogistics and the warehouse of the future. The platinum EcoVadis certificate is a great confirmation for us and, of course, an obligation at the same time to continue on our path in the future.”
Dr. Lars Brzoska, Chairman of the Board of Management, Jungheinrich AG
Along with many of the largest companies in the UK, we have committed fully to reduce emissions to net zero by 2050 and Jungheinrich UK aims to be a Carbon Neutral business by 2035. This commitment places us at the forefront of the material handling industry on the road to ‘Net Zero’, making a cleaner and healthier world for you and the wide community.
Jungheinrich UK has committed to achieving the following milestones:
• By 2023, 50% of new Jungheinrich forklifts sold in the UK will be Lithium-ion powered
• By 2025, 100% of new Jungheinrich trucks sold in the UK will be fully electric-powered
• Jungheinrich UK is committed to being carbon neutral by 2035
50% OF NEW TRUCKS SOLD IN THE UK TO BE LITHIUM-ION POWERED
100% OF NEW TRUCKS SOLD IN THE UK TO BE ELECTRIC
TO BE A CARBON NEUTRAL UK COMPANY
The recent opening of our state-of-the-art, solar-powered Northern Hub in Warrington demonstrates how we are changing things. This and the phasing out of old depots means we are already making progress in lowering our emissions and the introduction and encouragement of hybrid working and ‘green’ travel backs up our approach. All new company cars in our fleet will be either electric or hybrid and as a global company, we have committed to drive to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees.
Why get onboard?
There are many reasons to start acting on environmental issues and ensuring your business is inline with future rules and regulations.

Leading Lithium-ion technology.
The key driver for enabling us to achieve our Carbon Neutral goals is our decision to phase out internal combustion engine trucks and to replace them with fully electric, Lithium-ion powered products.
As the first manufacturer to introduce Li-ion into the market over ten years ago, Jungheinrich are at the forefront of this technology, continually developing new products to help you become more efficient and sustainable.
‘Following significant progress in the development of Li-ion especially in the counterbalance truck, we firmly believe that our electric product range can satisfy all your materials handling needs, and that we can continue to help you take significant steps towards your own sustainability targets.’
Jungheinrich have been developing market leading electric forklift trucks for years and recent significant developments in the Counterbalance truck sector means we can provide you with a clean and efficient alternative to the traditional IC truck which can perform equally as well, even in harsh outdoor environments.
