Sustainability update December 2022

Last year we launched Environmentality, a new way of thinking which cemented Jungheinrich UK’s commitment to sustainability.

We became the first materials handling company in the UK to declare that we would no longer be promoting combustion engine trucks and also to keep to the group target for all Jungheinrich sites to be climate neutral by 2030 (Scope 1 and 2). Since July 2022, Jungheinrich has ceased offering combustion forklifts for sale, meaning electric is now the exclusive power source available to our customers – ensuring we are helping them on the way down their own paths towards a sustainable future.

Globally, we have seen that an historic deal has been struck at the UN’s COP27 summit that will see rich nations pay poorer countries for the damage and economic losses caused by climate change. From a Group perspective, Jungheinrich has achieved several key accolades in sustainability:

  • In 2020 we joined the “50 Sustainability & Climate Leaders” initiative, a group of the world’s leading companies in the field of climate protection and sustainability.
  • Since 2021, we have been on the Financial Times List of Europe’s Climate Leaders, the only key intralogistics supplier to be included.
  • For the second time in a row, we have been awarded the EcoVadis Platinum sustainability certificate.

All of this places us in the top one per cent of companies worldwide in the areas of environmental protection, human rights and sustainable procurement!

So what are we doing in the UK to ensure we hit our sustainability targets?

We’re very proud to inform you we have offset all customer service emissions for 2021 by sponsoring a hydro-electric project! In addition to this there are several sustainability projects underway here in the UK, the details of which we look forward to sharing with you in future communications!

Environmentality. Just think what we can do together.
